To our good health

By Michael Medina

A dependable report published four years ago says that fitness and well being came as an urgent personal concern for most Filipinos, (according to about more than half of respondents in a survey) other than the generally affecting concerns that are mostly in terms of money-making in nature.

These countrymen reaffirmed what other Filipinos are concerned about these days: their health and preventing illnesses.

For a poor Filipino, our main apprehension is healthcare problem, even with the increased PhilHealth population coverage this is still not enough to alleviate. As one writer puts it succinctly, a Filipino family, especially among the poor, an illness striking any of its members is viewed as a catastrophe.

Again, that writer added that more than half of every 10 Filipinos who give in to sickness die without ever seeing a doctor.

The World Health Organization (WHO) says a healthcare system should be “well-implemented,” words to this effect, and that it must provide fair access to quality healthcare regardless of the aspect of who could or could not afford while protecting them from financial cost of poor health. Sadly, it said that healthcare in the Philippines does not meet these set standards.

The WHO added that the Filipino Healthcare System has a history of unreasonable and unequal access to health services and it is affecting primarily the poor. The government takes little attention to budget spending on the program which further widened the gap between rich and poor.

One major health problem prevalent among Filipinos today is high blood pressure or hypertension and dominating the disease is particularly poor and increases the risk for heart disease and death.

Many factors associated with the cause of hypertension among Filipinos are stress, diet, cultural beliefs, and lack of exercise, smoking and lifestyle.

Obesity or being overweight is another health problem affecting Filipinos due to overeating, unbalanced meals, irregular meals, unhealthy food choices and lack of exercise.  As Filipinos, we love food and celebration and a lot of our customary dishes are high in fat and sodium.

Presently, wellness program become a trend among our countrymen, which integrates the mind, body and spirit allowing one to be in the state of the best possible well-being that makes us achieve our goals and find significance and determination in our lives.

Actually, Wellness requires constant knowledge and making changes to improve our state of wellness. Wellness involves detoxification programs that take out the continuous entry of toxins acquired from the food that we eat, the air that we breathe and other substances like alcohol and drugs.

All of these toxins caused many of the diseases and illnesses that afflict us today.  The damage on the main toxin removing organs of our bodies, our liver, kidneys, skin, and bowels, grows each day, leading them to be overworked and overstressed.

That is why detoxification is indispensable for our continued good health.  One type of concept today applied by most Wellness programs is Ionic Detoxification Foot Bath. This uses brass and stainless steel electrodes which cleans, maintain equilibrium and enhance the bio-energy stored within the body and utilized by our cells.

Ionic Detoxification Foot Bath also helps the body get rid of toxins, chemicals, radiation, pollution and other foreign material trapped in our skin.
